Info on Social Bookmarking

This one is fun - a video that will teach you about social bookmarking. Why bookmark? It is a great way to save the web sites you use the most, all in one place. You might have some great book reviews or lesson plans that you want to see right in your classroom. Voila - bookmark them. If you use a social bookmarking system you can share your groups of web sites with your colleagues and they can share theirs with you. Not sure what I am really talking about? Watch this video.

Blogs can be used by groups like us - or even better in the classroom. Check out this web site on blogging.

A Beginning...

The Vermont Council on Reading is entering the 21st century. We are starting by helping ourselves get familiar with web 2.0 tools. A new position was added to the VCR Executive Board - that of an Information Services person - me! Title needs to be determined - but my new role is wrapped up in moving the board members to a stronger understanding and use of collaborative tools for our work. Our board members come from all of the various regions in the State of Vermont. This makes it tough to have meetings where all can attend. Often we get started on a project and time runs out. If we are successful in our use of web 2.0 tools - I am hopeful that we can engage each other in our project work beyond our meeting times.

For this reason, the beginning posts to this blog will be about how to use it and other tools effectively. Really helping us all better understand how literacy will work from this day on in the lives of our students!
